Unternehmen sind eben nicht nur ihren Shareholdern im Sinne der Gewinnmaximierung, sondern ebenso ihren Stakeholdern im Sinne ihrer gesellschaftlichen Belange verpflichtet. Unternehmen befinden sich daher in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen ökonomischen und ethischen Belangen. In eben diesem Konflikt zwischen Gewinnprinzip und ethical tritt nun company Citizenship (CC).
    CC ist eine Möglichkeit das reine Gewinnprinzip zu durchbrechen und lässt sich in den vier unternehmensethischen Ansätzen zur Durchbrechung des Gewinnprinzips nach Ulrich (1995) verorten.
    Der vorliegenden Arbeit liegt die Fragestellung zugrunde, ob es sich bei CC um eine altruistische Haltung der Unternehmer gegenüber der Gesellschaft handelt, oder ob im Sinne Ulrichs Instrumentalistischer Unternehmensethik CC dazu benutzt wird ethisch Gewinn zu erzielen. Dazu wird im ersten Teil der Arbeit eine Begriffsklärung und eine Einordnung in die gesellschaftlichen und ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen stattfinden. Anschließend erfolgt eine Erläuterung des Nutzens des CC, bevor die jeweiligen CC-Instrumente näher betrachtet und exemplarisch anhand ihres jeweiligen Nutzens aufgelistet werden. Darauf folgen die Anforderungen an das administration und die Risiken und Grenzen des CC. Abschließend wird ein gelungenes Beispiel dargestellt und ein Versuch gestartet die zugrunde liegende Ausgangsfrage in einem letzten Kapitel zu beantworten.
